Breaking…

In searching for the word of the month, okay maybe of the year since it’s been awhile that I did a new word search, I came across an ordinary word that can be used in so many ways.

Break.

You can break a bone or a heart. Birthing waters can break, as well as ocean waves.  We can take a coffee break or break for recess.  There is breaking news and breaking for commercials.  There is a breaking pitch in baseball and breaking in pool or snooker.  There are line breaks and font breaks.  Actors “break a leg” and programmers “break statement.”  There are prison breaks and breaking into houses.  There is breakdancing and martial arts breaking.  We can break a law or a horse.  Our voices break as well as our thoughts.  There is sequence breaking and strike breaking.  There is SUSY breaking or music breaks.  We break in new shoes and new employees.   We housebreak a puppy and potty break a child.  There are Summer breaks, Thanksgiving breaks, Christmas breaks and Easter/Spring breaks.  You can break a trail, or a security line, or a formation. Our spirits can break or we can break an enemy.  Circuits can break or we can break up a collection.  You can break the bank or a record.  We break a sweat or a case.  A day breaks and when storms break we break for cover.  Relationships break and we break a chain.  We can break the ice or break free.  A spell can be broken, so can the sound barrier.  We break into tears, or a smile.  We can break ground and break into business.  You can break camp or break bread.  You can break up a fight or break up in laughter.

Such a little word and used in such a variety of ways.
