Cats....

Cats are adorable but funny creatures.

Since giving away all my furniture last week to those who frequent Freecycle.org, I've been living with a small desk and a chair, tons of boxes (mostly books and computer stuff, go figure) and clothes.  Or I was, until delivering the bulk of my possessions to my new home the day before yesterday (thanks for all the help Jeni and Ricky!) so I could thoroughly clean my present townhouse and tie up some loose ends.  Snail mail forwarding, "see-you-soon" lunches, "last-lattes-together-for-awhile," etc.

Now I'm finally down to a pallet on the floor for a bed, barest living necessities, and some clothes in a couple of suitcases.  Yes, my computer-challenged friend, my laptop is considered a necessity.

Even before my decision to move, my cats would run and hide at the sound of a car pulling up or a knock on the door.  They are such anti-social creatures, or scardey-cats as my grandson calls them.  (Until someone shows up wearing especially cat hair-clinging clothes, then they zoom through the house churning up every cat hair they've ever lost.)  Consequently, they were in hiding when all the furniture and my belongings were being moved.  When they finally decided the coast was clear and emerged from the bathroom cupboard, the male quietly checked things out.  But the female, being more vocal, let me know in no-uncertain tones that she didn't particularly like the changes.

This morning she decided that since I'm being totally unreasonable and have refused to return her scratching posts, she will put up with my choices.   But unwillingly.

She is still the boss and let me know it by promptly getting rid of what seemed like a year of pent-up hairballs on my freshly shampooed carpet.  Not in just one spot as usual, but in six different areas.  Good thing I have until noon to return the cleaner.  Now that the cleaner is silent once again and she is out from hiding, she is laying on my suitcase giving me her "if-you-think-you-won-think-again" look.

Or maybe it's her "you're-not-going-on-vacation-without-me-again" look.  I dunno.

But the fact remains, adorableness is the only thing that saves her.  And she knows it.
