Milestones...

Twenty-nine years ago today, my firstborn came squeaking into this world.

I say squeaking because she squeaked when the doctor cleaned out her mouth. He did it twice and tapped her feet. She still only squeaked. Then he shrugged as if to say, "you can bring 'em into the world but you can't make 'em cry." He then handed her to the nurse who wrapped her up and handed her to her dad. I was just glad it was over...the fatness, the waddling, the pain of childbirth.

Since then I have watched both my daughters go through milestones. Some of the same ~ crawling, teething, walking, first days of school, first dates, first proms, first jobs, higher education ~ and some very different. Leaving their footprints on disparate stones and crossed bridges.

Time seems to go by so fast when you're looking in the rearview mirror ... and a bit blurry at the edges. (Or maybe that's presbyopia.)

Anyway, looking forward and glimpsing the future with the upcoming nuptials between Mandy and Scott and the newly (last night) engaged Jeni and Ricky, I am watching them, for the first time, cross the stream of life stepping on similar stones at approximately the same time.

I am watching them celebrate life.

In case I haven't said it lately, I am so proud of them.
